Steve "Happy Feet" Wright, so called because of his obvious love of dance, first learned to play "the pipes" with Newcastle City Pipe Band at the age of 12. Unfortunately he put his pipes down when he was 15, leaving Newcastle Pipeband to concentrate on his dancing. As a successful competition Highland Dancer he joined dance Kalidescope and learned Morris and Rapper dancing before going full time studying professional dance at The North of England College of Dance. He graduated and progressed to Vienna Festival Ballet where he was employed as a classical Ballet dancer playing several principle roles touring extensively throughout Europe.
Steve retired from professioinal dance in order to marry his wife, an Irish dancer from Hebburn. Steve's love of dance took over again and he learned Irish Dancing, and carried out numerous demonstration dances both in the UK and through Europe.
In 1997 he joined 72 Engineers Pipe Band, and then 102 REME Pipes and Drums. In 2014 he joined Houghton le Spring Pipe Band.
He currently teached karate 4 nights a week in Sunderland and Penshaw, and plays in a Ceilidh Band called "The Whole Shebang" as ofter as he can.
